Providing support & fundraising for the Shreveport Fire Department & their immediate family
We encourage a family culture where Shreveport Fire Fighters & their immediate family receive emotional, mental, & physical support needed throughout a Fire Fighters career. We want to cultivate a more transparent and informed department, along with their families on Fire Fighters physical and mental health risks by ensuring Fire Fighters receive the knowledge & support they need at the station to properly prepare for stressful & challenging shifts, while also facilitating in the education and support network of families.
The "SFD Spouse Auxiliary" has been an extension of the Shreveport Fire Department intermittently since the 1980s. The mission has always been the same, cultivating, encouraging, and growing relationships between SFD employees and their spouses/significant others within the different stations, departments, & shifts. The SFD Aux primarily focused on planning family oriented holiday events, helping in the annual Burn Run, and aiding in fundraising for SFD families that found themselves in need.
In 2022, SFD Support Organization became an officially registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization in the state of Louisiana. Still in the early phases of building our foundation, we are working towards building a more distinguished & modern presence within SFD & SFD families. While continuing the original goal of supporting SFD members with cultivating & encouraging relationships & camaraderie throughout the shifts and department, but also expanding our purpose to promote awareness of the mental, emotional, & physical struggles Fire Fighters often face during and after their careers. SFDSO will organize events and fundraising each year to build & strengthen these relationships and awareness in each of these objectives.
While in our early stages of growth we encourage feedback from our members on the events they would like to see take place.
